Sophie is a licensed master social worker. She works with adolescents/teens and adults. Sophie's approach is guided by psychoanalytic principles. Such as, looking at particularly difficult emotions, exploring the unconscious repetitions of relationships and other behaviors in the therapy relationship, and focusing on gaining self-awareness and insight. Sophie also utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Multisystemic Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

Sophie believes that important aspects of the therapy relationship are: mutual commitment to the process, knowing there will be ups and downs, and understanding that psychological change takes time and effort. She also views a shared sense of purpose and goals to be important in developing a therapeutic bond.

"I became a mental health professional because I enjoy walking with people as they search for understanding, insight, growth, and joy in their lives. It is an honor to witness people work through their goals, and see what else they discover about themselves along the way."

Finding A Therapist

Researchers have demonstrated that the most important factor in the success of therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist. The client needs to feel heard and respected, while trusting in the professional relationship. Sometimes people say that they've tried therapy previously and it "didn't work." Often times these may be cases of a mismatch between the client and therapist. Consider trying therapy again if you find yourself in this position.
